This is a feature that allows users to either create their own tabs for their objects or modify the default tabs.  This can be done at the org level as well as the object level. Custom object tabs are an excellent way to help organize your pages to direct users where you want them to go. They’re also helpful for tracking who, what and how many records a user has accessed in a Salesforce org.
